Wegbeschreibung zum Ausstellungsraum Burghof

Wir freuen uns die Ausstellung und Buchpräsentation von „The Rotting Husk“ mit den Künstlern Nate Hess (geb. 1984 Tucson, Arizona, USA), Julia Feyrer (geb. 1982 Victoria, Kanada) und Erik Lavesson (geb. 1982 Uppsala, Schweden) anzukündigen. Hess und Feyrer sind beide ehemalige Studenten von Prof. Simon Starling und wohnen derzeit in Los Angeles bzw. Vancouver. Lavesson ist derzeit Schüler von Prof. Douglas Gordon an der Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main.

Es gibt keinen Weg aus dem Labyrinth, denn es verschiebt sich während wir uns hindurchbewegen. Es ist lebendig. Ein schiefer Korridor in dem jeder Winkel und jede Ritze zu einem Picknick einlädt sich auszuruhen. Im Gegensatz zu echten Alternativen bieten diese Pausen nur vorübergehende Befreiung. Immer in Richtung einer zwangsläufigen Selbstauflösung ist die Wahlfreiheit nur ein spöttischer Reisebegleiter in all ihren Erscheinungsformen.

Die Ausstellung und das Buch „The Rotting Husk“ bilden zusammen ein gelungenes Ganzes, in dem das Experimentieren mit den Systemen des Spielens, das Spielen selbst und die Wahlfreiheit in ihren jeweiligen Grenzen offengelegt wird. Das Buch „The Rotting Husk“ wird an der Bar „Under the Chestnut Tree“ in der Freimaurer-Kapelle präsentiert, während im anliegenden Park Erfrischungen und gegrillte Maiskolben serviert werden.

Leonhardi Kulturprojekte ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein, der sich der Förderung zeitgenössischer Kunst in der Rhein-Main-Region widmet.

Die Arbeit an „The Rotting Husk“ startete im Herbst 2009. Die Ausstellung und das Buch wurden mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Hessischen Kulturstiftung und der Agentur Neuelinie ermöglicht. Die Künstler danken besonders Jo Cook und Wesley Mulvin, für die großzügige Hilfe und Unterstützung bei der Umsetzung von „The Rotting Husk“.

We are pleased to announce «The Rotting Husk» exhibition and book presentation by artists Nate Hess (b. 1984 Tucson, Arizona USA), Julia Feyrer (b. 1982 Victoria, Canada) and Erik Lavesson (b. 1982 Uppsala, Sweden). Hess and Feyrer are both former students of Prof. Simon Starling at the Städelschule, and currently reside in Los Angeles and Vancouver respectively; Lavesson is a student of Prof. Douglas Gordon, also at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main.

There is no route out of the maze. The maze shifts as you move through it, because it is alive. It is a crooked corridor where each nook and cranny make for a picnic-like setting to put down your refreshing beverage and rest. Much more than real alternatives, these pit stops act as temporary relief from the onslaught of brief and reoccurring anxiety attacks. Always pointing in the direction of the inevitable point of self-dissolution, the simulacra of freedom of choice in all its manifestations is a mocking tour guide.

Together the «The Rotting Husk» exhibition and book form a complimentary whole which involves experimentation with systems of games and play, of freedom of choice and their respective limitations. The book will be presented on location in the reception bar «Under the Chestnut Tree» in the freemason chapel in the adjacent park, where refreshments and grilled corn on the cob will be served.

Leonhardi Kulturprojekte is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of international contemporary artists with ties to the Rhein-Main region. The work on The Rotting Husk project started in the fall of 2009; the exhibition and book was made possible with the kind support of Hessische Kulturstiftung and Neuelinie.
